  • Shringar Films was a film distribution partnership formed between its founders, Mr. Shyam Shroff and his brother Mr. Balkrishna Shroff in 1975. In its more than three decades of existence, Shringar Films has done breakthrough work in Film Distribution, On-Screen programming , Innovative film marketing and also supported the birth and blooming of India's most dynamic multiplex chain; Fame Cinemas under the leadership of Mr. Shravan Shroff. Its relentless drive to facilitate access to world class entertainment to the Indian audience has cemented its position in the distribution space. Shringar Films understood the importance of the distribution bridge, in the value chain of film making, which has Production and Exhibition on the other two sides. It moved on from being a distributor to forming a unified entity, Shringar Films Ltd in 1999. This umbrella corporation housed the film exhibition division as its key drivers and also went on to raise public capital to support the aggressive expansion. In the process, Shringar Films, created tremendous value addition to the growth of its film distribution business.

    Synopsis

    Mr.Shyam Shroff can been rightly called a maverick, for his exceptional work in the film distribution sector. Starting at a very young age he quickly educated himself in the nitty gritties of the film trade through his stint in the family's film financing company- Isaardas Naoomal, which had financed films like Dushman, Kafila, Chalti Ka Naam Gaadi, Jhumro, Howrah Bridge, Do Raaste, Guide, Aradhna, Evening in Paris etc. The year 1975, was a turning point in Mr. Shyam Shroff's career as he chose to turn entrepreneur in partnership with his brother Mr. Balkrishna Shroff, to form Shringar Films, which would focus solely on film distribution. Mr. Shroff's instinctive understanding of the market and his passion for cinema helped Shringar Films become the largest film distribution house in India. He commands a lot of respect within the film fraternity, for being instrumental in revolutionizing Indian cinema through his support of films like Khamosh Paani, Dance like a Man, Hyderabad blues, Ardh Satya, Kamasutra, Fire, Hazaar Chaurasi Ki Maa, Missed call, Bariwali, Kandukondain Kandukondain , Bhopal express, to mention a few. In the 80s and the 90s he along with his brother Balakrishna Shroff distributed what went on the become blockbusters of that era. These included films like Hum, Shahenshah, Khuda Gawah, Raja Hindustani , Qayamat se Qayamat Tak, Jo Jeeta Wohi Sikander and Sarfarosh to name a few. Mr Shyam Shroff also has a wonderful relationship with his employees and Trade, who cherish his presence, guidance and practice of ethics in day to day affairs. Mr.Shroff is presently focused on the forward integration of Shringar Films into the movie trade and the overall corporatization of the Indian film industry. He is a member of the IIFA advisory committee for the last 9 years and continues to contribute towards the changing face of Indian cinema.

    Balaji Sir

    Synopsis

    Mr. Balkrishna Shroff is the strong pillar of support, upon which, Shringar Films continues to enjoy a premium position in the Film distribution sector. With more than 40 years of experience in the Film Trade, Mr. Shroff has a special focus on content marketing. He started his career in the re-issue of films and releasing them in unexplored markets through the right mix of art and marketing. The trade credits him, for the distribution success of films like Lagaan, Ardh Satya, Hyderabad Blues and Munnabhai MBBS to name a few. He is also credited with the release of language films such as the Tamil version of Ghajani. He was also appointed as Consultant Distributor by Vinod Chopra Production during their release of the ‘3 IDIOTS. Mr.Balkrishna Shroff has been awarded with the “Best Distributor” award by Screen publication earlier and the Indian Motion Pictures Distributors Association has him as one of their members for the last 3 decades. He commands a lot of respect in the film industry especially for his knowledge on Film Distribution.

    Shravan Sir

    Synopsis

    Mr. Shravan Shroff is a young, enthusiastic and dynamic enterprenuer with a graduation degree from Mumbai University and an MBA from the Melbourne Business School. He joined Shringar Films, the family run film distribution business in 1997 and gave it a boost by pioneering the concept of outsourced screen programming in the same year. Under his leadership, the group launched Mumbai's first multiplex, Fame Adlabs in Andheri (W). Six more multiplexes later, he took the company public and subsequently rolled out a chain of 25 multiplexes across India. Recently, Shravan sold Fame to Inox Leisure and entertainment and exited the multiplex business. Not one to sit back and relax, he is currently in the process of setting up a new line of business. He is now the Managing Partner of South Yarra Holdings, and is looking at investments in various sectors, with the aim of creating shareholder value and at the same time providing his management input in the companies that South Yarra invests in. He is an active member of the Mumbai chapter of the Young Presidents Organization (YPO), a US based non-profit organization. He also sits on the board of the Censor board of India. Shravan's entrepreneurship has been recognised all over India. He is invited from time to time to speak at A-league universities and campuses like the Symbiosis, IITs and IIMs. Shravan's efforts have not gone unnoticed as he is often acknowledged through numerous awards and recognitions including Society magazines Top 100 Achievers (2005), India Today Young Guns Top 50(2005), STAR screen distribution and exhibition award, a few Rotary awards...to name a few. Shravan recently received the 2010 Alumni Excellence Commendation for Media and Entertainment award from the Australian High Commissioner as well. All this is attributed to his spectacular success in the exhibition sector through his maiden multiplex venture: The Fame chain.

    The Fame chain was the value creation opportunity spotted by Mr. Shravan Shroff, in the exhibition of films in India. It was conceptualised in the late 90's, when the country was moving away from the traditional single screen to a multiplex model. Fame was Western India's first multiplex and it revolutionized movie-viewing thereby leading to a huge impetus for the industry at large.
